Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty) is a cosmetic procedure in which excessive skin and fat are removed from the middle or lower part of the abdomen. Distended skin is removed, the "six-pack" muscle reinforced, and the lower abdomen rejuvenated. The appearance and profile of the lower abdomen is improved by removing skin folds, scarring and stretch marks.
Generally removes more skin and fat than a Mini Tummy Tuck (Mini Abdominoplasty). Deals effectively with the loose skin above and below the belly button (umbilicus).
Often combined with Liposuction of the sides of the abdomen.

| Under general anaesthetic, an incision is made above the pubic hairline in an area normally covered by a bikini. The skin is then lifted off the "six-pack" muscles as far up as the ribs. The belly button (umbilicus) remains in its normal position but is cut away from the skin. The "six-pack" muscle or rectus abdominus is tightened and brought back together reducing the waistline. Finally the skin is pulled down and a new opening for the umbilicus is made. The excess skin and fat is then cut out. Dressings and a binder is then applied. | |
