Breast Augmentation (Breast Implant) is a cosmetic procedure to increase the size of the breast by introducing a synthetic implant behind the mammary gland or behind the pectoral muscle supporting the mammary gland. This surgical procedure is often combined with a Breast Lift (Mastopexy).
Procedure Details & Information
Mild sagging or droopiness of the breasts
|1 - 1.25 hours|
|Under a general anaesthetic an incision is made in the crease under the breast or in the lower border of the areola (dark skin around the nipple). A pocket is made behind the breast tissue or behind the pectoral muscles. Sometimes a dual plane technique is used (a pocket behind the muscle as well as a small one in front) to help correct sagging or droopiness. An implant is then inserted. There are several types of implants (including the newest gummy-bear type silicone implants) as well as many different shapes and sizes. The incision is then closed. A dressing and a supportive bra is then used.|
|Home for 3-7 days.
Restraint from heavy lifting and exercise for 6 weeks.
Breast binder and sleeping on back for 6 weeks
Swelling and implant riding high for 2-12 months
Final results in 2-12 months
|Increased size of breasts and when required, correction of mild breast sagging. Results can last 10 or more years.|
|Hematoma (blood clot), infection, disruption of the incision
Capsular contracture (hard scar around implant), decreased nipple sensation, implant problems
As of June 2014, the breast implants we use essentially have a life time warranty on them. Although very rare, if anything happens to the implants, the company will replace both of them and also provide $3500 towards the surgical fee. As well, we reduce our fees significantly in cases like this, resulting in very little cost to our patients. In essence, your initial up front costs should cover you for a lifetime (not accounting for issues such as sagging with age). For those ladies with implants prior to June 2014, there is also a lifetime warranty but the amount the company will contribute to the surgical fee is slightly less.
